Dale Turner is back again to show us even more ways on how to make our chord progression sound more unique. In this video Dale goes over the stylistic tendencies of artists like Jeff Buckley and then shows us how to apply it to the progression we learned in Part 1.
I like that Jimi style bit, I've been writeing an accoustic song since the last vid. and I like lots of open strings like that Jeff Buckley guy, pretty cool stuff.
i'm not sure but i don't think john frusciante wrote "my friends" i think dave navarro did. didn't he?
Yeah, I dropped the ball on that one--I was kind of ad-libbing my wording... I realized later that night, after filming this, that I said the wrong song :-( I meant to say "Scar Tissue." I felt so lame :-( But thanks for noticing... I LOVE both those guys.... Later!
Pretty cool vid. Really liked the Jimi portion you did. What scales/mode is this chord progression based off of? Really liked the licks you had between chords, very Jimi. Props, keep the vids coming.
that was very helpful. Often I'll learn new chords and maybe put em into a progression, but i couldn't seem to make them sound musical. This helped me a lot

I'm glad Night Lights! Learn as many ways to mess with different versions of the same basic chords, and you'll have a lot more variety in your songwriting. At least I know it helps me. Keep rawkin'!!!

Rockin'F! Each one of those fills is a doublestop thing yanked out of the following scales, changing with each chord:
C
C maj Pent (C-D-E-G-A) w/sus4 (F)
G/B
G maj Pent (G-A-B-D-E) w/sus4 (C)
C7/Bb
C Mixo Pent (C-D-E-G-Bb)
F/A
F maj Pent (F-G-A-C-D)
Fm/Ab
F min Pent (F-Ab-Bb-C-Eb)
C/G
C maj Pent (C-D-E-G-A)
G
G maj Pent (G-A-B-D-E) w/sus4 (C)
Hope that helps!!! On my INTIMATE AUDIO web site, I have a (totally free) lessons page that breaks some of that stuff down, FYI.
that was really impressive! it kind of opened a door for me xD
i will definately practise theses techniques more often!
thanks a lot and greetings from germany!
Dude, awesome video's.
I really liked the Jimi-like lick
Overall very helpful stuff man, thx! You might have just saved some kids from mindless 3-chorded songs! :p
Really good stuff. Any chance the tab or chords for the lesson could get posted? There were some really interesting chords in there....what were they??? Need to know.
Awsome, these lessons helped a lot more than any others i could find on this topic. I've already begun working on a song with this method of writing. THANK YOU!
Great videos Dale. Interesting material and very nice of you taking the time to help us out. I never really tried songwriting because i had no idea what i was doing so this video is a big help to get me going. Thanks again bro.
I can't figure it out, what chords are you using for the last version (the more punk rock sounding one)? You say you're using 2-note chords which implys power chords, but they're obviously have something else to em. It sounds like some inversions, but I don't know. Any chance of telling me the notes you're playing for just that part?
Do you know where I can start off learning about this stuff? To be honest, I know the chords, and if I played around I could make some cool stuff like anyone else, but I don't know why it's happening. I saw you trying to explaining, but it's still beyond my understanding.
great lesson though im having trouble picking up on the barre chords. if i could get some kind of explanation to how G/B chords. etc are shaped that would help alot.
thanks.

Yea, I think Dave played guitar on that album, One hot minute, while John was in rehab. But its likely that John wrote the song though, cause it sound more like Johns earlier stuff than Daves.
